Sophoi conducted a theory-based, independent evaluation of the Clean Air Fund’s Low Cost Sensor (LCS) data strategy. Analysing a purposive sample of nine global grants, the evaluation assessed the Fund’s added value in the sector and generated actionable recommendations for future data-driven investments in air quality.
The evaluation made innovative use of AI tools — Claude and NotebookLM — to process and summarise extensive grantee interviews. AI provided scaffolding for systematic synthesis of a large qualitative dataset rather than a replacement for human analysis. The summaries were organised in Miro to support collaborative sense-making workshops, moving stakeholders rapidly from raw data to strategic priorities.
