Our Purpose and Values

Sophoi provides innovative, practical monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) support to donors, funders, re-granters and the partners they support. We help organisations better use evidence to inform learning and action on complex challenges.

Complex challenges — from climate, environment and adaptation to wider societal change — are shaped by dynamic interactions between people, institutions and ecosystems. Cause and effect are rarely linear, and conditions keep shifting. Our work is informed by complexity and systems thinking, and organised around the three steps of our ESLA Loops approach — Evidence, AI-supported Knowledge Gardening and Collaborative Sense-making — building our clients’ capacity to become evidence-based, collaborative sense-making and adaptive-learning organisations.

Evidence on its own doesn’t tell you what to do. It becomes useful when the people closest to the work set it against their own experience and reach a conclusion they would defend. That is why people sit at the heart of everything we do — helping organisations move from having to report, to wanting to sense-make.
