In partnership with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), Sophoi contributed to the Independent Evaluation of the Green Climate Fund’s Approach to Indigenous Peoples, commissioned by the GCF’s Independent Evaluation Unit (IEU).

Sophoi associate Julia Bussab Fonseca served as an Evaluation Specialist, bringing expertise in Indigenous Evaluation Frameworks and deep experience from Latin America — overseeing country case studies and conducting interviews and focus group discussions with GCF stakeholders.

The evaluation combined established, accountability-focused evaluation methods with light-touch collaborative sense-making: engaging Indigenous Peoples stakeholders in the country case studies, and members of the GCF’s Indigenous Peoples Advisory Group, to interpret the evaluative evidence — an approach true to Indigenous Evaluation Frameworks.
